I think the hardest part of learning the tarot is memorising the numbered suits. I think it is only because there are so many of them that it feels quite daunting and it is easy to shy away from it.
I decided to follow a ‘Key For Me’ strategy, in which I brought all four suits under the same umbrella then used minimal words to describe each of the cards. This enabled me to create a foundation on which to build my knowledge of the cards.
You can do the same using words that mean more to you – hence the phrase ‘Key For Me’. Write it down somewhere to refer to if you are struggling with remembering the cards.
My ‘Key For Me’ is:
Aces: Starts
Twos: Coming together
Threes: Manifestation
Fours: Growing
Fives: Hurdles
Sixes: Proof positive
Sevens: Choices/Endeavour
Eights: Strain
Nines: Signs (positive or negative)
Tens: Completion (positive or negative)
The same goes for the Court Cards:
Pages: Starts (child-like)
Knights: Learning (immature)
Queens: Practical (mature)
Kings: Successful (experienced)
* people in our life
* attitudes we need to adopt
* might be ourselves
* might be our behaviours
This is why a journal is good to have around – writing it down will help cement your ‘Key For Me’ and, of course, you can easily find it if you forget.
